体育の授業（Sportunterricht）の参加免除は、見学（出席）義務の免除を意味しない。見学中も学校側の管理責任（Aufsichtspflicht）の対象となるため、児童は原則として体育館のベンチ等での待機を義務付けられ、自習などの別行動は認められないケースが多い。
