Are private schools only for the rich in Germany?

No. Many private schools (Ersatzschulen) receive state subsidies and use a sliding scale fee based on your household income.

Tips

Ask the school for their "Einkommensabhängige Schulgeldtabelle" (income-based fee table). This is very different from International Schools, which usually have a high flat rate for everyone.
