How do I actually find a spot for a gap year (FSJ or BFD)?

Search the official FSJ-Börse or Bundesfreiwilligendienst portals. You must apply directly to the organizations such as hospitals or kindergartens.
Tips
Apply in February or March for a start in August or September. These spots fill up as fast as university seats.

FSJ（自由意志による社会活動の年）やBFD（連邦ボランティアサービス）の受け入れ枠には上限があり、採用選考プロセスは一般就職と同様に履歴書（CV）や動機書の提出、面接が義務付けられている。労働時間や休日、保険加入義務等の労働法上の規定が適用されるため、実質的なフルタイム勤務となる。
